Sadly this is the last of the Hugo study. :( Next I am going to be doing some Tiny Toons study. I know, I know! It was animated overseas in Japan. But I loved the cartoon as a kid, why not study and find out the reason why.

Hugo The Movie Star - 1993

I recently picked up a cartoon movie at FYE. It looked good and was called. "Hugo - The Movie Star". It was made in Denmark in the year 1993. Great animation in this movie, character designs are fantastic. Sadly, once Miramax got there hands on it in 2005, they did a terrible job with translation and cuts. Here is what Wikipedia said.

In 2005, Mirimax Family released a translated, edited edition of the two animated films. Released directly to stores without publicity, the disc has no special features. This release was criticized for its awkward voice acting, altered music, poor translation and some scenes have been cut down or removed.

I am going to be studying this cartoon next, pretty much still framing the tv and building the character from simple shapes.

Here is my first attempt. (Also I plan on getting the official release with english subtitles, I think it would be best to watch it in its original form. The miramax release didn't have any language option.. )

I am really having a hard time figuring out the three dimensional shape of the dog's jowl/snout.

Had a small break from art & animation for Holiday stuff. My new years resolution is to draw more and animate more! I hope all of you are doing the same. I am plan on attending some more life drawing classes soon too. I will be updating this blog alot more, 2010 should be a fun year.
